SAN DIEGO, Calif. - After a great win in the first PacWest game of the season, the Golden Eagles headed to San Diego to play against the Point Loma Sea Lions on Saturday evening.
To begin the contest, both teams needed to get into a rhythm on both sides of the floor. To break through that first 10 minutes of play, CUI went on a 14-2 run in the middle of the first half, started by a personal 8-0 run by CUI veteran PG
Kobe Sanders! Hitting step-back threes and crossing over the Sea Lions defense.
That offensive run gave the Golden Eagles a 12 point lead with nine minutes left to go in the first half. Basketball is a game of runs, and Point Loma took advantage of that theory after CUI made their strike first. Going into the half, the Golden Eagles were on top with a score of 29-23.
Coming back from the locker room after the half time, the Golden Eagles were now in a battle against the Sea Lions as they came back from down 12 to take the lead by one early in the second half. After taking the lead by one, the Sea Lions held a five-to-six-point lead the entire second half of the game until the last minute.
With a last-minute effort,
Kobe Sanders hit two clutch threes to bring CUI back within three points but ended up falling short to the Sea Lions with a score of 65-60.
Key Golden Eagles players for the contest include
Kobe Sanders, who led all scorers with 20 points, including going 6 for 10 from deep;
Connor Gleason, who had 13 points and two assists;
Jackson Tucker, who had 10 points while assisting three Golden Eagles; and
