HONOLULU, Hawai'i – The Concordia University Irvine men's volleyball team came out fighting against No. 1 Hawai'i for the second night in a row. Hawai'i was able to stop CUI and take control of the match finishing with final scores 20-25, 19-25, and 19-25.
Middles
Gil Herold and
Mason Mullins were unstoppable at the net as Herold had five kills and Mullins added four while hitting above .420 throughout the match. Herold had no errors at the net and served up an ace against the Rainbow Warriors.
Liam Roberts came into the match in the third and made an immediate impact going 3-for-4 with no errors.
Slater Fuhrman and
Scott Montez both racked up six kills with a combined six digs. Each player tallied an ace as well.
Uriel Batista reached double digits in kills finishing with 10 and marking his eighth match in double digits.
Setter
Makai Lipson came into the game and had 15 assists along with one ace.
Nathan Biteau started for the Golden Eagles and set up 14 assists and four digs.
Jacob Reilly was the libero and had four digs with
Cruse Ae'a making his season debut picking up one dig and two assists.
CUI will play three games next week in the CU Arena starting with UC San Diego Tuesday Feb. 21 before they start conference play. The Golden Eagles kick off MPSF play against BYU Friday Feb. 24 and Saturday Feb. 25 with all start times at 7 p.m.
