LA MIRADA, Calif. - On Saturday afternoon the CUI women's tennis team faced off against Biola and defeated the Eagles 4-3 to complete the sweep of both rival programs. With the win the Golden Eagles earn their second consective victory and start the 2023 PacWest season 1-0.
In the doubles portion of the match, the duos of

Alyssa Zayat would win clinch the first point of the day for CUI.
"Zayat and Da Re took care of business quickly at No. 3 doubles which helped give some momentum to Richards and Rachor at No. 1 doubles," said CUI tennis head coach Jonathan Sanchez. "That pair battled back from being down 4-5 to come back and win 7-5 and get the doubles point."
CUI would trade blows the Eagles in the next five single matches with Rachor and Da Rae picking up wins for the Golden Eagles. With the match tied 3-3, Bear came up clutch as the freshman from San Dieguito Academy defeated Biola's Gaby Carvajal to secure the win.
"The highlight of the match was freshman Jessica "Jojo" Bear at No. 5 singles, who clinched the win for the Golden Eagles after a marathon of a match in three sets," said Sanchez. "It's rare to see a freshman play so fearlessly in high pressure moments like this but Jojo embraced it and seemed to really enjoy being in the moment."
Concordia will be back in action on Wednesday, Feb. 22 at 3:00 p.m. against Point Loma.
