NORTHRIDGE, Calif. – The Concordia University Irvine beach volleyball team opened its regular season with two contests on Thursday against No. 6 Grand Canyon and CSUN.
The Golden Eagles won two pairings against the Matadors with
Eva Prewitt teaming up with
Kelissa Lemoine to snag a 2-1 win at the No. 4 spot. After losing the first match 21-18, Prewitt and Lemoine battled back 21-16 to force a third set and survived 15-12.
Lily Dyer and
Carly Moreno also earned a point for CUI with a 2-0 victory at the No. 5 pairing. It was a close, nip-and-tuck match but Dyer and Moreno outlasted their opposition 28-26 and 21-19.
However, CSUN was able to gain points in the first three pairings to eke out a 3-2 win.
Earlier in the day, Concordia lost a tough matchup with Grand Canyon 5-0 which is one of the top-ranked teams in the country. Here are the results from the day.
