IRVINE, Calif. – The Concordia University Irvine men's volleyball team hosted No. 8 BYU in the MPSF conference opener. The Cougars won in three with final scores 18-25, 19-25, and 18-25.
Uriel Batista led the Golden Eagles with seven kills and put up a solo block. Freshman
Scott Montez was right behind with six kills and added three digs.
Middles were affective as
Mason Mullins went 3-for-3 and had a two key blocks for the Green and Gold which included one solo and help from setter
Nathan Biteau. Mullins also had a season-high of three digs from left back.
Gil Herold contributed with four kills while hitting an impressive .375 against the Cougars.
Liam Roberts and
Johnny Anselmo both tallied three kills while Anselmo led CUI with four digs from the back. Biteau dished out 21 assists and
Makai Lipson added five assists. Libero
Jacob Reilly dug up three and
Slater Fuhrman came into the game and added three digs.
The Golden Eagles will be back in the CU Arena Saturday Feb. 25 as they look to take on BYU in a rubber match with a start time at 7 p.m.
