CUI opened PacWest play Friday night at Hawaii Hilo. The Green and Gold put up a tough fight in the first game of a four-game series losing 8-7. The second game of the double-header had to be suspended in the sixth inning due to rain.
Play will be resumed tomorrow followed by the scheduled double-header to wrap up the series.
Senior
Calvin Schonebaum got the Eagles on the board first when he ripped a single to right field scoring junior
Michael Dixon. The Golden Eagles ended up scoring four runs in the first inning thanks in part to sophomore
Vito Fowler's 2-run RBI double down the left field line.
Speaking of Dixon, the Oakland native continues to be a sparkplug at the top of the order collecting two hits and an RBI. Graduate student
Nick Hansen and freshman
Landry Spitler also had two hits on the day.
The Vulcans would grab the lead in the fourth inning, but the Golden Eagles wouldn't go down quietly. In the top of the seventh, freshman
Jordan Bolden who was pinch hitting would single to left field cutting the Vulcan lead down to one.
Game 2 of the double-header should be resumed tomorrow pending the weather. Hilo had a 3-1 lead going into the sixth inning. Junior
Riley O'Sullivan got the nod on the mound and had struck out four batters.
