IRVINE, Calif. –
Shelby Pfeiler and
Rylie Rohr each went yard and four pitchers combined to allow zero earned runs Monday as No. 12 Concordia earned two wins against visiting Pace University.
The Golden Eagles saw
Callie Nunes toss her best outing of the year in game one and
Katlin Entrup came in to finish off the first victory of the day.
Cortney Koelmans followed suit in game two with five strong innings of work before handing off to
Rae Flores to complete the doubleheader sweep.
Pace scored three times but all of those were unearned runs.
Concordia is now 16-2 in its past 18 games and 24-6 overall.
Game 1: CUI 5, Pace 1
Nunes (2-2) struck out nine Setters and recorded a punchout for seven of the first eight batters she faced. She only allowed two hits and one unearned run to cross the plate in the fifth inning.
Missy Nemeth provided a pair of RBI singles to help the offense in addition to Pfeiler's solo shot that left the yard in the fifth. Pfeiler is now second on the squad with five homers this season.
CUI tacked on three runs in the fourth to open up a 4-0 lead before Pfeiler's smash.
Entrup navigated CUI through the last two frames to cement the 5-1 win. She finished with three strikeouts and just one hit allowed.
Game 2: CUI 5, Pace 2
Cortney Koelmans (4-0) went five shutout innings and Flores finished off the final two frames and struck out a couple batters as well to help CUI fend off any chance at a Pace comeback.
The offense did the rest. Outfielder
Kaia Nisby started the scoring with a base hit to left field in the bottom of the second. CUI led 2-0 as they moved to the third.
In the third,
Sydney Sprinkle sent a screamer to the outfield and doubled home pinch-runner
Bella Calvo to push the CUI advantage to 3-0.
Rohr parked a homer over the left field fence in the fifth inning of game two to help the Golden Eagles continue to set the pace. She leads her team with seven home runs already this season.
Pfeiler narrowly missed smacking a second home run herself on Monday but settled for a double off the right-field wall.
On deck is a Saturday date with Biola back in PacWest Conference play. CUI heads over to La Mirada for the doubleheader that begins at 12 p.m.
