SAN DIEGO, Calif. - For the second time in three days, the Concordia University Irvine women's tennis team rose to the occasion to outlast a PacWest conference opponent.
CUI 4, Point Loma 3
Facing Point Loma on the road on Saturday, CUI earned the doubles point which wound up being crucial. The Golden Eagles won at No. 1 doubles with
Heather Richards and
Sophie Rachor taking their match 6-4 and also
Tiffany Carrillo and
Jessica Bear fending off their opposition at No. 2 doubles by a count of 6-2.
Richards also won at No. 1 singles in straight sets along with Carrillo at No. 3 singles. The Sea Lions roared back to knot up the contest 3-3 but
Alyssa Zayat proved she could handle the pressure and outlasted Amanda Letzring 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 to clinch the match by the narrowest of margins, 4-3.
CUI 4, Hawai'i Hilo 2
The Golden Eagles were coming off a home victory two days prior against the visiting Vulcans. Just like on Saturday, the duos of Carrillo/Rachor and Carrillo/Bear earned CUI the doubles point.Â
Richards and Zayat earned a point apiece at the respective No. 1 singles and No. 4 singles spots.
Alicia Da Re clinched the victory with a 7-5, 6-2 decision for the Golden Eagles.
CUI returns to action next week against St. Thomas.
