CUI Women's Tennis Secures Sixth Straight Win

Doubles Pairings Help Clinch Narrow Victory for Golden Eagles

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - For the second time in three days, the Concordia University Irvine women's tennis team rose to the occasion to outlast a PacWest conference opponent.

CUI 4, Point Loma 3

Facing Point Loma on the road on Saturday, CUI earned the doubles point which wound up being crucial. The Golden Eagles won at No. 1 doubles with Heather Richards and Sophie Rachor taking their match 6-4 and also Tiffany Carrillo and Jessica Bear fending off their opposition at No. 2 doubles by a count of 6-2.

Richards also won at No. 1 singles in straight sets along with Carrillo at No. 3 singles. The Sea Lions roared back to knot up the contest 3-3 but Alyssa Zayat proved she could handle the pressure and outlasted Amanda Letzring 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 to clinch the match by the narrowest of margins, 4-3.

CUI 4, Hawai'i Hilo 2

The Golden Eagles were coming off a home victory two days prior against the visiting Vulcans. Just like on Saturday, the duos of Carrillo/Rachor and Carrillo/Bear earned CUI the doubles point.

Richards and Zayat earned a point apiece at the respective No. 1 singles and No. 4 singles spots.

Alicia Da Re clinched the victory with a 7-5, 6-2 decision for the Golden Eagles.

CUI returns to action next week against St. Thomas.
