The Green and Gold are flying back home a little happier as they won two games out of three against Hawaii Pacific Thursday afternoon. The first game of the day was finishing up the game that had to be suspended Wednesday due to weather.
CUI grabbed their eighth win of the season, and their third win in PacWest play. The offense erupted for the Golden Eagles Thursday tallying a total of 33 hits in the three games.
CUI 1, Hawaii Pacific 7
Play resumed in the Top of the sixth inning for the first day of the game. The Golden Eagles were only down 3-1 when play was halted. Sophomore catcher
Vito Fowler produced the only run in this game for CUI when he singled to right field.
Freshman pitcher
Josh Pugh got the nod for the Golden Eagles going five strong innings with six backwards K's. His offense was able to put up nine hits on the board. Graduate student
Nick Hansen, junior
Michael Dixon, and redshirt sophomore
Michael Mira all had two hits apiece.
CUI 8, Hawaii Pacific 2
The second game of the day saw an offensive eruption for the Golden Eagles. They went for eight runs on 14 hits.
Freshman catcher
Owen Gott had CUI on the board fist when he ripped a double to right center scoring redshirt junior
Nathan Benefeito. Fellow freshman
Jordan Bolden singled to center that same inning scoring Gott pushing the lead to 2-0.
Mira picked up his second RBI of the season later in the game. Veteran leaders Hansen and Dixon came through as usual with RBI's as well.
Junior pitcher
Riley O'Sullivan went the distance on the mound for the Golden Eagles providing the bullpen with much needed rest. The San Diego native only gave up two runs pushing his record to 3-1 on the year.
CUI 6, Hawaii Pacific 5
The last game of the day ended up coming down to the last inning. With the game tied at 5 from the fourth inning, Mira's aggressive base running proved to be the difference. Having reached on an error the San Clemente native scored on a ball that got pass the Sharks catcher.
Redshirt junior
Brett Finnel picked up his second win of the season pitching four innings of scoreless baseball. Fresh of his pitcher of the week awards, Finnel came in and struck out seven batters.
Senior
Dante Catalino and Dixon led the team with two hits each. CUI scored five times in the second inning thanks in part to Benefeito's double down the right field line that scored two runs.
The Golden Eagles don't return to the diamond until March 17 when they travel to Azusa Pacific for a non-conference matchup.
