TAVERES, Fla. – The Concordia University beach volleyball team started the AVCA Small College Championship Friday and finished first in Pool B Play. CUI played against two teams that they have never competed against before and beat Eckerd College 3-1 and came out with a close 3-2 win over Saint Leo.
The Golden Eagles started pool play with the first games of the tournament and put on a show as they dominated in most slots and earning a quick 3-1 lead that Bush and Souza did not need to compete as they already secured the win.
The second game of the day started a little later than planned due to a weather delay but CUI secured a close 3-2 win. The first slot with Phair and Ostojic had a dominate first set but the Lions made a couple adjustments to earn the second set victory and force a third. The Golden Eagles made a few key plays that kept their momentum alive to earn a 15-7 win in the third. Flights four and five had no problem gaining their wins in just two sets.
