IRVINE, Calif. – The Concordia University Irvine women's volleyball team open up their 2023 season with hosting the Golden Eagle Invitational this week. The Golden Eagles started their home opener with a thriller defeating Cal State Dominguez Hills in four sets.
The outside hitters led the Golden Eagles as
Kirra Schulz and
Kennedy Farley finished the match with 21 and 14 kills. Schulz recorded three aces against the Toros while digging up 17 digs from the back row. Farley posted a career-high of 25 digs defensively and was all over the court keeping the rally alive.
Cassie Prior had nine kills and
Danielle McCasland contributed with five. Sophomore
Halli Hooks had three kills while putting up a dominant block with four and one solo block.
Caitlin Jarrell added six kills with two blocks.
Three different setters saw the court tonight with
Alyson Fullbright collecting 28 assists and 11 digs.
Devin Sivertson dished out 13 while
Kawehi Chang had nine.
Julia Wilson dug seven in one set while redshirt freshman
Delaney Risse finished with 11 and four assists.
The flight club was electric and helped the Golden Eagles to overcome an 11-4 deficit and come back to win the third set 25-22. CUI continued their momentum in the fourth set and shut down CSUDH offense.
The Golden Eagles will be back in action on Friday Sept. 1 as they take on No. 4 Wayne State at 7 p.m.
