RIVERSIDE, CALIF. - To start the week off, the Concordia University Irvine men's water polo team headed into its first match against Cal Baptist University at 7 p.m. on Sept. 14. It won't be the only battle of the week for the Golden Eagles.
In the beginning, the Lancers swam out with a strong first half and CUI kept the shots coming. Even though CBU managed to get seven goals past the Golden Eagles defense, Jace Peterson scored the first goal for Concordia on a Power-Play. Possession switched back and forth multiple times before CBU took the lead. By the end of the second period, Concordia regrouped and switched things up.
Moving forward, Sam Diamond led Concordia with two goals and one steal, while Harry Bentham and Carlos Olat both scored a goal each in the last two periods. The two CUI goalies put up a good effort against the CBU offense. Senior Hunter Osgood came up with 3 steals in total.
Cal Baptist University won the match with a final score of 20-5.
The Golden Eagles are just getting started! On Saturday, Sept. 16, CUI will compete in the ULV Mini Tournament against George Washington University at 12 p.m. and La Verne at 3 p.m.
