Game Recap: Women's Soccer | | Channa Hart

A Golden Gate Takedown

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - No. 17 Concordia University Irvine women's soccer traveled up north to San Francisco to take on the San Francisco State Gators. After the last three games, CUI was on the hunt for another win.

In the first half, the Golden Eagles charged towards the goal, one by one. Senior Layla Comeaux made the first shot of the match. Hailey Havican and Gabby Breton were right behind her. SFU struggled to get past the Golden Eagles defensive line.

CUI started the second half with possession of the ball. It became a race to see who would get the first goal of the day. Riley Walkington and Nikki Marino took their own shots at the goal, but both were saved by SF goalkeepers.

In the 65th minute, Junior Val Cortez made the first goal of the game with an assist from Walkington. Concordia took the lead and kept the ball in their possession. New players were subbed onto the field and the Golden Eagles didn't lose an ounce of intensity.

Fueled by the goal, Olivia Ocampo and Bella Barrett added more shots to the board. Even though CUI finished the match with eight shots on goal and fourteen in total, San Francisco State managed a total of seven saves. By the end of the second half, the Green and the Gold won the game 1-0.

CUI women's soccer added another win to their record, making it 4-1 overall. The Golden Eagles will be back in action on Thursday, Sept. 21. The home game against Cal State East Bay will be the last match before PacWest play begins.
