Statement From CUI Athletics On Recent Women's Soccer Incident

Response to Recent Women's Soccer Incident

On Thursday, August 31, at the women's soccer match between Concordia University Irvine and Cal State University Los Angeles, an incident occurred that is being investigated by CSULA.

Concordia University Irvine and the Golden Eagle Athletics program uphold the God-given dignity of all people, and we strongly condemn the sin of racism that erodes that dignity. We believe that sport provides a place for people to live out their God-given talents, and that the athletics environment should be a respectful and welcoming environment for our student-athletes, our opponents, fans, and officials.

We appreciate CSULA for taking these allegations seriously and for their partnership as we all work together to provide the best atmosphere for competition for our student-athletes.

Concordia University Irvine strongly supports all of our student-athletes. We will continue to uphold the highest standards of conduct among our student-athletes, as we strive to promote places where all individuals are honored and mutual respect happens on and off the field. We commit to engage in the process of self-examination, consistent with our core values, to form a courageously loving community that faithfully cultivates humility and responsibility, fosters honest and charitable conversations, and offers a path to personal growth that equips students for lives of service in a diverse world.
