Box Score 2 IRVINE, Calif. - Heading into the second day of the Cougar Classic, the Concordia University Irvine women's volleyball team was on the hunt for a well-earned win. After the loss against the CSUSM Cougars the night before, Concordia faced off against Seattle Pacific University on Friday morning. The Green and Gold approached the game with tenacity and determination despite their 0-1 record.
At the start of the match, Seattle Pacific came prepared with a quick offense, but CUI kept up with its own energy and won the first set. The Falcons took sets off Concordia in the second and third, but the Green and the Gold was back in pursuit in no time. Caitlin Jarrell lead the team with 11 kills and Alyson Fullbright sped ahead with 27 assists. After a hard-fought five set match, Seattle Pacific took the lead and won 3-2.
The second match of the day was against Colorado School of Mines at 4 p.m. Junior Kennedy Farley, Cassie Prior, and Danielle McCasland were the leaders for CUI as the Golden Eagles gained momentum against the Orediggers. During the entire match, points were juggled back and forth and neither team gave up the lead. By the start of the third, each team had a set under their belt. The Golden Eagles were neck and neck with Colorado School of Mines, but lost the fourth set of the match to end the game. The last match of the day ended with a final score of 3-1.
As of Friday, the Golden Eagles have a record of 0-3 in the Cougar Classic and will take on St. Edward's Hilltoppers at noon on Saturday, Sept. 9 to close out the big weekend.
