SAN RAFAEL, Calif. - The women's team was on the road in an afternoon basketball game for CUI, playing against the Dominican University Penguins.
The Penguins arena is known as the "Ice Box," and that nickname proved to stay true, unfortunately for the Golden Eagles. CUI knew they were in for a battle from the start of the game. The Penguins opened up an early 10-point lead despite the Golden Eagles winning the rebounding game significantly.
The Golden Eagles were not going down without a fight. Throughout the second quarter, CUI made a run themselves and got the Penguins lead down to six points. Clawing away at the score, CUI, going into the half, made it a 38-32 game.
Coming back from the half, the Golden Eagles knew they had a tall task ahead of them but were ready for the challenge. Competing all the way till the buzzer sounded and even out-rebounding the Penguins 30-23 with 16 offensive rebounds, the Golden Eagles ended the game with a final score of 75-57.
Key contributors for CUI included players such as
Teagan Thurman, who got her fourth double-double of the season, scored 12 points, grabbed 10 rebounds, and five of them were office rebounds. Hanna Vela recorded eight points, one rebound, and one assist. Last but not least,
Erika Maggard scored six points, grabbing six rebounds, four of them offensive.
