Box Score RIVERSIDE, Calif. - The Concordia men's water polo team competed against tournament host, Cal Baptist University to finish the Lancer Joust. To make things interesting, Jacob Stuart was able to break another record for the Golden Eagles.
Earlier in the day, Concordia played in an exhibition match versus the Saddleback Gauchos. The game ended in Concordia's favor, but the stats do not count for the team.
Heading into the final match of the weekend, Concordia found itself against tough competition. The Golden Eagles recently took on CBU for their season home opener and entered the match with newfound determination. The Lancers upheld their competitive nature and pushed the Golden Eagles until game's end.
Offensively, Kai Young was a breakout player for Concordia with a hat trick, making it his third of the season.
Sam Diamond and Oscar Garcia Blomback also led the charge against the Lancers with two goals each. Defensively, Griffin Beth held off CBU with ten saves overall and captured a steal. Freshman Lucas Rodriguez also made his presence known with two steals and two assists for the team.
Seizing the opportunity to score, Jacob Stuart hit his 146th goal to break the record for most goals in a career. The record was held by Jeff Runyan with 145 goals overall. This marks the second record Stuart has broken for the year, as the Yucaipa native surpassed recorded assists in a career at the beginning of the season.
In addition to the monumental goal, Stuart also led the team with three assists against CBU.
Despite the Golden Eagles' contributions, CBU broke ahead in the second period and made it tough for a comeback. In the end, Concordia lost 9-17.
The Green and the Gold has its eyes on the WWPA Conference opener against rival Biola on Wednesday, October 16. The last time the two teams faced off was at the WWPA Championships in 2023. The action starts at 1:00 pm!
