IRVINE, Calif. - After the sun goes down at Golden Eagles Field, it tends to get quite a bit chillier tucked next to the side of the mountain. The colder weather did not stop the red-hot Golden Eagles from playing against the visiting Hawaii Pacific Sharks.
After celebrating the seven seniors, the Golden Eagles didn't waste any time starting the scoring party.
Bella Barrett squeezed a pass by the Sharks defense, finding
Hailey Havican, who saw the back of the net first for CUI. Putting on a passing clinic, the Golden Eagles were back in attack mode. Havican ended the regular season with a team-high 10 goals and ranks second in the PacWest in goals and points.
In the 22nd minute,
Bella Barrett this time found the goal, assisted by
Sophia Munoz. Leading with a score of 2-0, CUI wanted more, and they got more. Five minutes after the last score, senior
Maddie Lauro finished a beautiful play with precision pinpoint passing from
Nikki Marino and Munoz, helping assist the third goal for CUI.
The senior
Mya Stice showed off some fancy footwork and passing as she found
Hailey Havican. This goal made it four total goals scored in just the first half for CUI. Heading into the half, the Golden Eagles were on top 4-1.
Coming back from the half, one more Golden Eagle wanted a part of the scoring action, and that player was senior
Nikki Marino, who scored the fifth goal for CUI, ensuring a solid win on Senior Night with a final score of 5-1.
CUI ended the regular season unbeaten at home (8-0-1) and
extended its home unbeaten streak to a school-record tying 16 straight games. That dates back to the first game of the 2023 season, when Cal State LA escaped with a 1-0 win over the Golden Eagles. Since then, CUI has not lost a home match and rountinely dominated the competition.
