CLAREMONT, Calif. - On Saturday, the Concordia women's water polo team took on Claremont-Mudd-Scripps and Cal State Northridge at the Axelrood Aquatics Center. The Golden Eagles finished the Triton Invitational with a record of 1-3 the previous week, making their season record 2-6 overall.
CLAREMONT-MUDD-SCRIPPS 8, CUI 7
It was a close match against CMS. Each period ended with a one-point difference. Abby Mammen led the Golden Eagle offense with four goals on five attempts. Following close behind was Andie Perreira with two exceptional goals and a single goal by Lily Ensley. Concordia remained neck and neck with the Athenas for the entire game. Mammen secured the final CUI goal thanks to a well-timed assist from Melinna Galbraith.
CSUN 16, CUI 9
Concordia's offense was spread out in the last game of the day. Tessa Tavaglione won the sprint to get the momentum going. Tess Henke and Lily Ensley scored the first few points of the game. Within the second period, Tamsyn Evezard beat the goalie and put it in the back of the cage. Thanks to an assist from Paige Henson, Andie Perreira also scored, making it CUI 4- CSUN 6. On a penalty shot, Melinna Galbraith added to Concordia's board with nine seconds remaining. Two Concordia goals were scored in the third period by Abby Mammen and Tessa Tavaglione. Defensively, Tea Summers secured 4 saves.
Next up for the Golden Eagles are their matches against Santa Clara and Marist College on Friday, Feb. 16 at 12 pm and 5:00 pm.
