CARSON, Calif. – The Concordia University Irvine baseball team had their first road game of the season against Cal State Dominguez Hills Thursday. The Golden Eagles dropped the first game of the four game series with a score 6-2.
Landry Spitler got things going for CUI on offense with a hit by pitch in the third inning followed by a single to left center from
Tank Espalin. The two stole second and third to get into scoring position. The Golden Eagles were able to bring two RBI's in from
Isaiah Walz and
Wyatt Madison to take a 2-0 lead.
The Toros answered back in the bottom of the fourth and scored four runs to take a 4-2 lead over the Green and Gold. CSUDH scored another run in the fifth and seventh inning and held CUI for the remaining time.
Brett Finnel started on the mound and went four innings with five strikeouts. Madison came into the game to relieve Finnel and had three strikeouts followed by
Scott Wood to close out the game with 1.1 innings.
The Golden Eagles will be back on the road against CSUDH Friday Feb. 16 with the first pitch at 1 p.m. before finishing the series at home Saturday Feb. 17 with a double header starting at 1 p.m.
