Sea Lions Slip Past Golden Eagles

Balanced Attack Keys Late Comeback Against Defending Conference Champs

IRVINE, Calif. - Oh those slippery Sea Lions.

The Concordia University Irvine men's basketball team had four different players score in double figures, and two more almost joined that group in a balanced scoring attack on Thursday evening.

However, a hot shooting night from the defending PacWest Conference champions saw Point Loma hang on for a hard-fought 82-74 victory in the second meeting this year between the teams.  PLNU shot a sizzling 61 percent from the floor on this night and was also 8-for-18 (44 percent) on three-pointers.

Jackson Tucker scored 16 points, Kobe Sanders added 11 and both Tim Adetukasi and Jackson Harding had 10 each for Concordia.

Guard Connor Gleason added nine points while Freddie Dybala and Charlie Dalton combined for 15 points together off the bench.

CUI did not miss a free throw and went a perfect 12-for-12 from the charity stripe.  Adetukasi led the way by making all six of his freebies.

However, the Achillies' heel on this night for the home team was rebounding.  PLNU out-rebounded CUI 31-20 and had 10 more second-chance points than the Golden Eagles.

Seemingly every time CUI started to gain momentum and put together a small burst, PLNU would hit a key basket to stymie that surge.

CUI is still battling to be in the top six of the league to make the PacWest Conference Championships. Point Loma and Academy of Art enter the weekend in the top two spots which would lead to a first round bye if those seeds hold for the upcoming tournament - which will be hosted down in San Diego by Point Loma.
