IRVINE, Calif. -
Kendall Flatt smacked her first home run of the season and the Golden Eagles salvaged a split against two tough teams on Saturday during the second day of the CUI Kickoff Classic.
For the second straight day, rain and the field conditions at OC Great Park forced schedule changes to the annual tournament. CUI hosted five games on Saturday, including three neutral contests that the Golden Eagles were not involved in. This including a premier matchup between two of the Top 25 nationally-ranked teams in the NFCA DII Preseason Poll.

No. 16 Oklahoma Christian 4, No. 14 CUI 3
Freshmen
Jayden Nishi made her first career start against the visiting Eagles and it was a tough first assignment as Oklahoma Christian definitely packed their bats. Nishi however did record her first career strikeout in the circle as a member of the Golden Eagles.
Senior
Katlin Entrup came on in relief and kept Concordia in the contest by pitching more than six frames.
Missy Nemeth continued her torrid hitting to open the year with a game-tying RBI single in the bottom of the first.
Mary Baccay and
Shelby Pfeiler each provided RBI singles in the sixth inning to tie the score at 3-3 and ultimately force extras.
Both teams had their far share of chances to win the game outright but Oklahoma came out on top in eight frames by scratching together a run to solve the equation and hand CUI its first loss, 4-3.
No. 14 CUI 4, Stanislaus State 2
Kendall Flatt parked a two-run homer over the fence and
Megan Casper earned her first victory as a Golden Eagle in Concordia's second game of the day.
CUI made its move in the fifth thanks to some spicy base-running.
Alexa Couto danced up and down the third base line and avoided the tag to steal home and tie the game at 1-1.
Later that inning,
Virginia Nemeth poked a sacrifice fly to score
Mary Baccay and put Concordia in front 2-1. Flatt then widened the lead to 4-1 with her clutch two-run blast.
Casper allowed only seven hits and scattered them across 5.2 innings of work. She only allowed one run to cross the plate.
Senior
Cortney Koelmans spelled relief for Casper down the stretch and helped fend off the Warriors late charge. Freshman right fielder
Jessica Im made a diving catch to rob a base hit and record the final out.
CUI (3-1) will face undefeated Western Washington (3-0) on Sunday in the reconfigured CUI Kickoff Classic tournament schedule. That game is slated to start at 10:30 a.m. off-campus at nearby Orange County Great Park on Field #3. Western Oregon and Chaminade will play the first game on that field location beginning at 8 a.m.
