IRVINE, Calif. - This Concordia softball team is on quite the roll. And no the final scores are not a typo.
Ranked No. 22 in the country in this week's NFCA DII national Top 25 poll, the Golden Eagles extended their season-high winning streak to 15 games.
CUI is now 14-0 in PacWest conference play, which includes four-game sweeps of Academy of Art, Dominican and now Hawai'i Hilo.
Contributions from up and down the lineup - along with stellar pitching from a talented trio - helped earn CUI matching 3-2 victories on Saturday.
Game 1: #22 CUI 3, UHH 2 (9 innings)
Second baseman
Mary Baccay stepped up in a big way by providing the walk-off RBI single on a blooper to shallow center in the bottom of the ninth.
CUI nearly won this game in seven innings and
Megan Casper pitched 6.2 shutout innings. But the Vulcans tied the game with two outs in the top of the seventh in stunning fashion courtesy a 2-run homer by first baseman Dyoni Garcia.
Cortney Koelmans came on in the later innings and earned the win in relief of Casper. Koelmans improved to 10-1 and is the first PacWest pitcher to get to 10 wins so far this season.

Freshman
Tessa Jerue cranked her second home run in as many days. Her solo blast in the bottom of the second inning gave CUI a 1-0 lead.
Jerue finished the series with Hawaii Hilo 4-for-11 at the plate with 4 RBI, 2 walks and 2 homers. She also was very busy at the hot corner as her and shortstop
Rylie Rohr fielded a ton of grounders and liners on Saturday to help out their pitchers.
Game 2: #22 CUI 3, UHH 2 (7 innings)
We had an old-fashioned pitcher's duel in game two with
Katlin Entrup and Tehani Seto each putting up goose eggs on the scoreboard through the first five innings.
It wasn't until the bottom of the sixth when
Jessica Im scored on a RBI single by
Missy Nemeth did the Golden Eagles break through.
A few batters later, Jerue added a RBI single to plate pinch-runner
Alexa Couto. That made it 2-0 in favor of CUI.
A stolen base by
Shelli Faulk drew an errant throw from the UHH catcher towards second base later that inning, which allowed Rohr to score from third for an extra insurance run. That play ended up being huge because the Vulcans rallied again in the top of the seventh to make everyone sweat out the final outs.
The first four batters reached base in the seventh, as Hilo loaded the bases quickly with zero outs. After a fielder's choice got the Vulcans on the scoreboard to cut it to 3-1, Entrup notched a critical strikeout. Catcher Kanoe Piltz singled home another run to trim the lead to 3-2, but Entrip got the next batter to pop up weakly to a charging Jerue down the third base line and that ended the threat.
Remarkably, UHH stranded the tying run on third base in what ended up being a very close game.
It's a quick turnaround for the Golden Eagles as a battle of nationally-ranked teams is on deck.
No. 7 Cal State San Marcos will visit No. 22 Concordia on Tuesday, March 19 in Irvine for a non-conference doubleheader starting at 3 p.m.
