SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - To close out the last game of their season, the men's basketball team headed on up to the newcomer of the PacWest, Westmont University, home of the Warriors.
Trying to spoil the Warriors senior night, the Golden Eagles came out strong firing on cylinders to start the game. Once CUI took the lead in the first half, they did not give it up for the entirety of the half. They held the warriors to only shoot 39% from the field while only giving up 26 first half points to the Golden Eagles 32.
Coming back out of the half, CUI was ready for a fight, especially with this competition being the Warriors senior night. The Warriors fought back with all they had. The lead change during the entirety of the game had changed 13 times because each team wanted to win more than the other. When the clock had struck 0 after two halves of play, the score was all tied up with CUI and Westmont going into Overtime (OT).
While in OT both teams were just going back and forth at each other to try and gain the advantage. In the final seconds, the Warriors took the lead with some free throws to go up 73-71. The Golden Eagles needed a stop to try and have one more look at the basket and they drew a five second call to get the stop that they needed with 3.9 seconds left.
Unfortunately the Warriors ended up getting a slight deflection off the inbounds pass to sealing
Javier Gallardo on the block and that was the game. Final score of the OT thriller was 71-73 in favor of the Warriors.
