IRVINE Calif.- The CUI beach volleyball team had a perfect Saturday as they went 5-0 on the day against both Vanguard and Hope International University. The Golden Eagles are now 16-7 on the season and have yet to be defeated on their home court with an astounding home record of 10-0.
 
CUI saw the Vanguard Lions for the second time this season, keeping their perfect record against them with another win. Four pairs and the exhibition for CUI won in two sets except for flight two, Sara Ostojic and Tatum Smith, who went head-to-head in a three-set battle against the lions. It was a close match as the VU Lions dominated the first set but, Ostojic and Smith bounced back in the second set to tie the match. Both teams battled in the third with close scores for the entirety of the set, however the Green and Gold took the victory and finished with scores of 14-21, 21-16, 15-13.
 
After the matches CUI celebrated their nine seniors, Sydney Marshall, Ashleigh Souza, Kali Uhl, Makena Houston, Sara Ostojic, Jordyn Nichols, Lauren Clifton, True McCullough, and Alex Omaszta with an emotional senior ceremony to send off their Golden Eagles.
 
Most of these Golden Eagles began playing for CUI when Coach Jenny Griffith joined the program in 2020. Griffith gave some very emotional words during her speech about these nine Golden Eagles. Stating that she was lucky enough to have picked a very special group of girls to begin the start of her career here as a coach. All nine seniors had many beautiful words for not only their program but their teammates whom they were all grateful for as well.
 
CUI will be traveling to Utah and playing against three different teams starting with Texas A&M University-Kingsville on Friday, March 29 at 8:00 a.m.
