Rohr Breaks Home Run Record In Thrilling Fashion

Senior Crushes Solo Shot To Top Cal State Monterey Bay

SEASIDE, Calif. – With one Sunday swing, Rylie Rohr lifted her team to victory and moved ahead of two former Concordia softball legends in the record books.

Facing Cal State Monterey Bay, Rohr stepped up to the plate in the sixth inning of a scoreless contest.

On a 2-1 pitch, she smashed her seventh home run of the year over the right field fence to give Concordia a 1-0 lead.

In addition to ultimately being the difference-maker in a close contest, that swing gave Rohr sole possession of the school record with 43 career home runs.

She had tied Amanda Fama and Amy Eilefson earlier in the week with career home run No. 42 against Cal State San Marcos.

"Rylie has certainly solidified herself as one of the greatest power hitters in the history of our program," said CUI softball head coach and athletic director Crystal Rosenthal. "You never want to miss a pitch because she has the ability to put the ball out at any moment. Today was no different it was an absolute blast to the opposite field when we needed it most. It's always fun to watch someone accomplish a record here because it's really hard to top the great players of the past, but she was able to do it today when we needed her the most."

Two-time PacWest Pitcher of the Week Cortney Koelmans made the Sunday start in the circle and went five scoreless innings.  She struck out three batters and only allowed four hits. This marked the fifth game this week Koelmans did not allow more than four hits in an outing.

Katlin Entup, who has also earned PacWest honors multiple times this season and is the reigning PacWest Pitcher of the Year, then entered to shut the door in the final two frames and earned her second save of the season. Entrup and Koelmans continue to be a phenomal 1-2 pitching punch for the Golden Eagles.

CUI is back at home for doubleheaders with conference foe Chaminade this Tuesday and Wednesday starting at 3 p.m. PT.  The Golden Eagles are in first place and lead the way with a 14-0 record in PacWest play.
