CUI Shortstop Walks Off Biola; Koelmans Fans Nine in One-Hit Shutout

IRVINE, Calif. – With 11 straight wins and a perfect 10-0 mark in conference play, the Concordia Golden Eagles could not have asked for better results over the last few weeks on the diamond.

No. 24 Concordia fended off its rivals from Biola on Friday by posting a pair of home victories.

With another extra inning affair in store in the series opener, a senior shortstop and a senior pitcher would leave their marks on the outcome before the night was done.

Game 1: CUI 5, Biola 3 (8 innings)

Rylie Rohr smashed a walk-off two-run homer in the bottom of the eighth to propel the Golden Eagles to a 5-3 victory in the opener.

Rohr is now just two homers shy of the school record. The senior from Yucca Valley, Calif. now has hit 40 pitches over the wall during her four-year career and needs just three more big flies to break the mark shared by Amanda Fama and Amy Eilefson (42).

Before the big swing by Rohyr, freshman second baseman Audrey Robles delivered a timely double in the bottom of the first inning to put CUI up 2-0. Robles laced a shot to the deep left field corner and it almost went over the fence. CUI added another run to make it a sturdy 3-0 advantage entering the second inning.

Katlin Entrup started the game and tag-teamed with Megan Casper to limit Biola from getting any crooked numbers.  Biola scraped together one run on three separate occasions, including in the top of the seventh to prolong the game.

But after Michalah Robison reached in the bottom of the eighth, it set the stage for Rylie's heroics.

Game 2: CUI 3, Biola 0

Rohr was at it again just about 90 minutes later.

After Robison earned a RBI by coercing a walk with the bases loaded to make it 1-0 Concordia, Rohr supplied a two-run double to give her team a more comfortable lead.

Cortney Koelmans silenced Biola's ideas of salvaging a split in the second game of the day.

Koelmans struck out her ninth batter of the game for the final out and went the distance. She only allowed one hit  in a complete game shutout and lowered her ERA to a tiny 0.92.

The senior pitcher is now 8-1 this season and leads the PacWest in wins.

Concordia gets a full week to prepare for next Friday's doubleheader against Hawaii Hilo. The twin bill will start at 3 p.m. PT on campus.
