IRVINE, Calif. - Coming from the other side of Orange County, Biola University took on the Golden Eagles in a double-header on Friday afternoon.
Both games were incredibly competitive and it really showcased how hard the student athletes work who compete in these games. Biola was the first team to strike and got one run on the board in the top of the third inning. That only fueled the Golden Eagles to strike back to get a few runs of their own.
In the bottom of the third,
Haku Dudoit took advantage of a hitters count and smashed a ball into right field scoring two runs to give CUI the lead 2-1. Backing up the offense, starting pitcher
Josh Pugh was absolutely tearing apart BU's batters. Throwing six innings Pugh only allowed 2 ER while striking out 11 batters and ultimately helped secure a win for CUI.
To put the cherry on top,
Cameron Slessor drove in one more run in the bottom of the eighth to add some insurance for the Golden Eagles, who took game one with a score of 3-5.
As game two was underway, just as the last game started, BU struck first in the top of the first inning. Backing up their starting pitcher, the Golden Eagles answered right back with a pair of runs for themselves to make it a 2-2 game in the first.
Haku Dudoit stayed hot through both games including getting an RBI in the 2nd to put CUI up.
Luke Glascoe put a moon shot over the right fielders head and CUI was on top 4-2 and looking confident.
The Golden Eagles kept game two incredibly competitive but ultimately a BU three-run homer was the deciding factor from the second game and CUI split the series 1-1.
