IRVINE, Calif. – The Concordia University Irvine baseball team started their series against Chaminade for the first time in program history since moving to the PacWest conference. The Golden Eagles are 13-15 overall and 8-10 in PacWest play.
Game 1: CUI 10, Chaminade 4
Senior
Michael Dixon powered the offense in the first game and went 5-for-5 totaling four RBI.
Isaiah Walz and
Tank Espalin joined in with adding two hits each and Walz brought around three.
Wyatt Madison started on the bump for the Golden Eagles and went two innings while striking out two.
Jason Rhodenbaugh pitched five innings with four scoreless frames and picked up his first win of the season.
Scott Wood came in to relieve Rhodenbaugh for the remaining two innings and did not allow a run.
The score was tied at 2-2 going into the bottom of the seventh until Walz and Dixon each hit a two RBI single and double. Dixon was able to score on a wild pitch to extend their lead 7-2. Although the Silverswords scored two in the eighth CUI answered back with scoring another three taking advantage of some errors Chaminade.
Game 2: CUI 3, Chaminade 4 (7 Innings)
Luke Glascoe led the Golden Eagles with two hits while two other players contributed with a hit.
Owen Gott hit a sacrifice fly to bring home Glascoe and an RBI single from
Tank Espalin to take the lead back from Chaminade in the second with a 2-1 score. Chaminade came out in the fourth to score two and one in the sixth. The Golden Eagles tried to get things going in the sixth with an RBI single from Glascoe but it was not enough as CUI fell by a close score 4-3.
Matthew Kaiser made his debut as the starting pitcher for the Green and Gold and went 3.1 innings while striking out three and allowed five hits.
Elliot Pigati,
Richie Kingsborough,
Ryan O'Toole, and
Kaj James came in to relieve for the remainder of the game and did not allow an earned run.
The Golden Eagles will finish their series against Chaminade Tuesday Apr. 2 with start times at 1 p.m. and 4:30 p.m.
