TAVARES, FLORIDA – The Concordia University Irvine beach volleyball team started pool play for the AVCA Small College Championships on Friday. CUI has been placed No. 2 seed of the tournament and proved why in the opening games going 3-0 twice.
Game 1: CUI 3, FSC 0
Duo
Kelissa Lemoine and
Kali Uhl swept their opponents with scores 21-18 and held the Mocs to only eight points in the second set.
Jordyn Nichols and
Korah Nordin was in the fourth slot and shut down Florida Southern College and only allowed them 11 points. The second set was a closer match as the Mocs made some adjustments but CUI was able to close out the match with a final 21-17. The fifth slot sealed the win for the Golden Eagles with
Nicole Miller and
Ashleigh Souza only allowing FSC to score 19 and 10 points.
Game 2: CUI 3, Catawba 0
The Golden Eagles picked up where they left off from earlier this morning and continued their momentum. Lemoine and Uhl were in the first slot and were in control the whole time only allowing Catawba to score six in each set.
Kelia Giusta and
True McCullough were also a dynamic duo as they kept their opponent to only nine points in the first set and then only 12 in the second to help CUI take a 2-0 lead over Catawba. Duo
Jordyn Nichols and
Korah Nordin came out onto the court and put up a performance taking the match with scores 21-9 and 21-14.
The Golden Eagles will play against the other undefeated team Tusculum University in pool play Saturday Apr. 13 at 8:15 a.m. PST before entering the challenge round where they may play later in the day.
