IRVINE, Calif. - Sending out the seniors in the right way was the theme for the Concordia men's lacrosse team on Sunday, and the Golden Eagles did just that with an emphatic 17-6 victory over Dominican.
Chad McFadden scored a whopping seven goals and finished with an assist as well for a game-high eight points.
Nick Beeson tallied four goals and an assist while
Jeremy Barnes led the squad with three assists.
A senior quartet was honored after the game and all four had their fingerprints on the win in different ways.
Drew Buckley scored twice and fellow senior
Garrett Burns added four shots. Along with that pair, seniors
Riley Slumskie and
Braden Schneider each were credited with at least one caused turnover and did lots of the dirty work on the back half of the field to limit Dominican to just six goals. No visiting player scored more than once as it was slim pickings for the Penguins.
Daniel Yang earned the victory between the pipes and came up with seven saves.
All-American face-off specialist
Cade Poe won 18 of 20 opportunities at the X. Poe led the way with eight ground balls as well. Helping him out was
Connor Kuhl who scooped up a cool four ground balls while Edward McCann and
Bryan Parr also were credited with three apiece.
Concordia finished the regular season 6-7 overall and 4-4 in its first season as an associate member of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC).
The Golden Eagles were projected in the RMAC Preseason Poll to finished third out of five teams and the votes held true as CUI will be the No. 3 seed in the upcoming RMAC Tournament.
Concordia will face No. 2 seed Westminster in the RMAC semifinal round with top seed Colorado Mesa the projected opponent in the RMAC Championship Game if CUI can avenge two previous losses to the Griffins.
