IRVINE, Calif. – The Concordia University Irvine women's tennis team marched into April locked in on the tennis courts and sporting a seven-game winning streak.
The Golden Eagles were rewarded for their dominance as the PacWest Women's Tennis Team of the Week.
CUI won three consecutive matches by identical 7-0 scores against Cal State Los Angeles, Chaminade and Biola. The three wins came in a span of 72 hours before Easter Break.
The victories over Chaminade and Biola were at home, as was the recent 4-0 win over Hawaii Hilo. That means CUI won their last four games by blanking the opposition.
In addition to that team success, newcomer
Emilie Lugon-Moulin was honored as the PacWest Women's Tennis Player of the Week.
Lugon-Moulin led the way by going 3-0 at No. 2 singles and a perfect 3-0 at No. 2 doubles with partner
Bryn Johnson. She improved to an impressive 13-3 in singles play and was in a groove on the courts.
To put into perspective how dominant the freshman was last week, her opponents in the three singles matches won a COMBINED four sets (The scores were 6-2, 6-1; 6-0, 6-1; and 6-0, 6-0).
CUI hosts Westmont in a makeup match on Wednesday, April 3 at 12 p.m. It will be Senior Day as well for the Golden Eagles.
