CUI Wins Series Over No. 17 Westmont On Senior Day

IRVINE, Calif. – After coming off an exciting two game lead over the Westmont Warriors on Friday the Golden Eagles were looking to continue their momentum into Saturday. The Concordia University Irvine baseball team split on the day but still won the series over No. 17 Westmont.
 
CUI started the day celebrating their 10 seniors which were Riley O'Sullivan, Connor Laeng, Michael Dixon, Jake Schulz, Elliot Pigati, Brett Finnel, Luke Glascoe, Ryan O'Toole, Shane Wallace, and Matthew Williams.
 
Game 1: CUI 6, WC 3
 
Senior Riley O'Sullivan was efficient on the mound striking out seven batters and allowed 10 hits with only one run in six innings. Ryan O'Toole, Elliot Pigati, and Josh Pugh came into the game from the bullpen to help collect the fourth win of the season for O'Sullivan.
 
Luke Glascoe was dominant at the plate going 4-for-4 while putting up an RBI triple in the first inning to put a run in the frame. Haku Dudoit joined in and doubled the score with a RBI single to left field. David Baruch III reached on an error by the Warriors shortstop and brought home Schulz.
 
Freshman Wyatt Madison was the designated hitter and hit two RBI singles in the third and fifth inning to bring Glascoe around and take a 5-0 lead over Westmont. The Warriors were able to score one in the sixth off a double. Connor Laeng started things off for the Green and Gold in the eighth with a double down left field line. CUI scored another run with help from Baruch in the eighth to get a comfortable 6-1 lead. The Warriors came within three off a two run homer but Pugh was on the mound and able to close out the game and earned his first save of the season.
 
Game 2: CUI 3, WC 5
 
Brett Finnel started on the bump the second game and went four innings allowing four hits and three runs while striking out three. Richie Kingsborough came into the game for 2.1 innings while Conor Meehan came in for the last 0.2.
 
Westmont jumped out with a 3-0 lead scoring in the first and fourth inning. CUI got things going in the bottom of the sixth as Dixon reached on a fielder's choice and brought Isaiah Walz home. Madison contributed with a two RBI single up the middle to tie the score at three a-piece. The Warriors were able to score another two runs in the seventh and finished the game with three consecutive fly balls to pick up a win in the series.
 
The Golden Eagles finished regular season with a 23-20 overall record and 17-15 in PacWest. CUI has made it into the PacWest Conference tournament for the first time in program history that will begin on Wednesday May 8th where the time and opponent is TBD.
