SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The Concordia women's water polo team wrapped up the GCC Tournament with more than just a win. Milestones were captured and the Golden Eagles finished in seventh place overall.
Despite a tough start in the GCC Tournament, the Golden Eagles soared through Saturday's match with goal after goal after goal. Abby Mammen was the first to score in the match, thanks to an assist from Melinna Galbraith. The senior center was recently named GCC All-Conference Honorable Mention and collected two goals in the final match of the season.
Tamsyn Evezard captured her 150th career goal at the five-minute mark in the first period. Sofia Dominguez sent it Evezard's way and sealed the assist for the career milestone.
Tamsyn Evezard didn't stop there. She scored another in the second, made it into the back of the cage on a power play, then scored her last with two minutes remaining on the clock.
Andie Perreira was close behind with three goals of her own. She made her presence known in the first, but sealed the deal with back-to-back goals coming out the half. The first goal was assisted by Tamsyn Evezard who found her immediately after Tessa Tavaglione won the sprint. Then Allie Gaetano sent it to Perreira for her third goal, making it 8-5.
The Golden Eagles outscored Santa Clara in every period. Sofia Dominguez, Allyson Corbett, Tess Henke, and freshman Julia Schmidt broke through the Bronco's defense and added more points to Concordia's board. In fact, Julia Schmidt captured her first CUI goal of the season.
Santa Clara struggled to get through Concordia's defense with Jaden Soto in the cage. The freshman goalie was named GCC All-Conference Freshman Team and left her mark against the Broncos with 17 saves on goal.
The Green and the Gold won the final match of the season 13-7, securing seventh place in the GCC Championship. The women's water polo team finished with an overall record of 12-22.
