Golden Eagles Get Their Revenge

IRVINE, Calif. - A marquee matchup took place on Tuesday afternoon, with PacWest standing implications and overall bragging rights as Point Loma strolled into town to face off against the Golden Eagles.

Heading into this match, CUI's last loss was against Point Loma precisely one month back. In this match, the Golden Eagles looked ready right from the doubles games, winning back-to-back to start the day with Tiffany Carrillo and Sophie Rachor winning 6-2, followed by Jessica Baer and Alicia Da Re winning 7-6 to help gain a point 1-0 heading into singles.

Point Loma also boasted an impressive win streak before this match, winning 13 straight games. The Golden Eagles were behind Point Loma in PacWest standings and put together an impressive eight-game winning streak diving into this competition.

CUI got their get back with phenomenal winning matches from Emilie Lugon-Moulin, winning 6-1, 6-4, followed by Tiffany Carrillo, winning 6-3, 7-5, and an unusual ending with Alicia Da Rey's match-winning by retirement, giving CUI the win over Point Loma with a final score of 4-3. This is the Golden Eagles' ninth team win, as they moved up the PacWest standings to second place right behind APU.

Quote from head coach Ellie Johnson after the match: "I am so proud of the team and how they fought for the win today," said CUI head coach Ellie Johnson. "This win is a summation of everything leading into today. We have been focusing on the process, which is where the results come from. I am proud of the girl's focus, discipline, and ability to stay steady as they ride the waves of each match. I am excited how this match is part of the process leading up to a strong finish of the season."
