Irvine, Calif. - After tonight's 3-0 win for the Golden Eagles, Concordia Women's Soccer is starting their season off strong with two shutouts, in which they have outscored opponents 7-0.
From the first blow of the whistle, it was clear that this soccer match would be nothing short of entertaining. The Golden Eagles and the Toros went back and forth for the first half of the game and showed some intense energy and solid defense, but neither team could gain enough momentum to score a goal. Then, just about twenty minutes into the first half, Olivia Ocampo broke open the scoring frenzy for Concordia with a penalty kick goal. After this goal by Ocampo, the Toros were unable to respond.
Ocampo had already previously owned the school record for the most penalty kicks converted, and she has now since scored six goals on PK's in her career.
Looking to come back stronger in the second half, the Toros came out with intention but were shut down by Hailey Havican herself. Not one, but two goals were scored by Havican within three minutes of each other, and the Golden Eagles found themselves to be in a great position with only ten minutes left in the game. Havican was assisted by Bella Barrett for both goals, and it is safe to say that Havican and Barrett are a powerful one-two punch for the Golden Eagles.
The Golden Eagles will face-off next with the San Francisco State Gators on Thursday, September 19th.
