U.S. Air Force Academy, Colo. - Wrapping up their weekend at the Rare Air Challenge, the Concordia men's water polo team went 1-3 overall. The Golden Eagles fought through tough competition in a thrilling last stand in the tournament.
Concordia went head-to-head against No. 14 Harvard in the early morning. Despite facing a relentless dominating offense, key players such as Kaliq Khan and Kai Young pulled through with two goals each. Dawson Brummett came in clutch with three assists for the Concordia offense. The fourth period was the best for the men's team, tallying three goals to better their chance against the Crimson. Harvard proved its metal in the 20-6 victory over the Golden Eagles.
The final match of the tournament was a thrilling turn of events in comparison to the morning. The Golden Eagles and the Iona Gaels were neck-in-neck until the clock ran out. Many Golden Eagles had strong performances such as Harry Bentham with four goals, Kaliq Khan and Kai Young with three. Griffin Beth, the latest WWPA defensive player of the week, also tallied six saves in the match. Despite being a close game, the Gaels found their rhythm and secured the lead by the end of the third period. The goal scoring for each period was as follows 6-6, 5-2, 5-8, 3-6, ending with the Gaels victory.
The men's water polo team now stands with an overall record of 3-10. The Green and the Gold fought through the challenges in Colorado and will prepare for the season home opener on Thursday, Sept. 26.
