New Era Off To A Golden Start

IRVINE, Calif. – The Concordia University Irvine women's volleyball team opened up the 2024 season with hosting the Golden Eagle Classic starting Thursday. CUI took on Colorado Christian and came back from behind in two sets to win in four with scores 25-16, 25-27, 26-24, and 25-18 to secure their first win of the season under head coach Eryn Leja-Martin.
 
Senior Kennedy Farley reached 13 kills on the right side along with four digs from the back row and Cassie Prior contributed with four kills. Kayden Croy was one of the outsides and was effective the whole night finishing with 10 kills while hitting an impressive .417. Ally Scheidle came into the game and made an immediate impact offensively going four-for-six.
 
There were a few new faces that started on the court for the Golden Eagles including freshmen Jadyn Orava, Delaney Gregg, and Macy Scheer. Orava led the Green and Gold with a double-double night of 14 kills and 19 digs while serving up two aces. Gregg was in the middle and added four kills and one out of the three team's solo blocks.
 
CUI ran a two setter offense where Macy Scheer and Kawehi Chang dished out 22 and 24 assists respectively. Delaney Risse wore the libero jersey and had 16 digs with two aces.

Celia Dowell led the team with three aces and was all over the court finishing the match with a career-high of 14 digs.
 
The Golden Eagles will play two games Friday Sept. 6 starting with Northwest Nazarene at 2 p.m. and will close out the day against Alaska Fairbanks at 7 p.m.
