A Classic PacWest Showdown

IRVINE, Calif. - Newcomer to the PacWest Conference, the Menlo University Oaktrees were in town to face off against the Golden Eagles at CU Arena.

With the first half commencing, CUI wasted no time building up a comfortable lead against the Oaks. Seven minutes into the contest, the Golden Eagles built up an 11-point lead off of great defense and went 3/3 from three-point land in the first seven minutes.

After building up that lead, the Oaks were bound to respond. The response came in the form of back-to-back threes to cut the lead to only two points with 7:50 left to go in the first half. From here on out, it was a PacWest dog fight. Ending the half, both teams were tied at 33 a piece.

After the break, the action really started to heat up. Those action plays included Jayce Catchings going up against three other Oaks to get an offensive board to create another possession for the Golden Eagles or Charlie Dalton taking charge in the lane to make the crowd and bench go wild. Answers from the Oaks included back-to-back And-1 plays to keep it an extremely entertaining game.

As the final minutes approached the game, it was a tight race, with the Oaks only being up by one point, 76-75. As that final minute approached, there were a total of five turnovers for both teams because they both wanted to win so badly. Unfortunately for the Golden Eagles, the stars did not align for the tight race to be in their favor, and they ended up being bested by the newcomer 78-75.
