IRVINE, Calif. - For the second matchup of the season, the Golden Eagles took on the visiting University Hawaii Hilo Vulcans on Thursday evening.
As the First half commenced, the Golden Eagles looked to carry on their momentum from the last Hawaii team they won against (Chaminade University). To start the game, CUI opened up on a 6-0 run. From that point on, both teams were fighting to gain an advantage against one another for the rest of the first half.
In the eighth minute of the game, the Vulcans made a mini-run themselves and really held on to their 6-9 point lead for the rest of the first half. Going into the locker rooms, the Golden Eagles were down 29-25.
The second half of play opened up with lots of turnovers from both teams. During the entirety of the game, both teams combined for a total of 31 turnovers. The Vulcans had the majority of the turnovers, with 20. Despite them turning the ball over, the Golden Eagles had a hard time getting the ball in the basket, only shooting just below 40% from the field to the Vulcans nearly 50%.
The Vulcans eventually bested the Golden Eagles with some crucial plays made down the stretch that led to CUI's downfall. The final score of the contest was 66-62.
