Golden Eagles Face Off Against No. 1 Long Beach State

LONG BEACH, Calif. – The Concordia University Irvine men's volleyball team took on No. 1 Long Beach State Friday. This marks the sixth meeting between the two teams and CUI is looking for their first victory. The Golden Eagles came out fighting in the first set but the Beach answered and won in three sets with scores 25-22, 25-19, and 25-15.
 
Makua Marumoto and Marcus Morgan both finished with six kills each. Ties Cornelissen contributed with four kills and a solo block.  
 
Middle Kasey Clouet put up an impressive performance out of the middle going four-for-seven while hitting .571 and no errors. Clouet was the other CUI player to put up a solo block during the match. Clement Osahon Jr. had five kills in the middle and a block assist.
 
Ryan Sears wore the libero jersey and led CUI with four digs from the back row. Colin Marks had 19 assists while throwing down two kills.
 
The Golden Eagles kept within arms distance of the Beach in the first set but Long Beach was able to sustain their lead and close out the set with a close 25-22 score. In the second set Makai Lipson came into the game to serve and went on a six point run to cut the deficit to four points. The third set went in favor of the Beach as they held the Green and Gold from going on any runs to close out the match.

The Golden Eagles will be on the road to start the week as they take on UC Santa Barbara Wednesday Jan. 29 at 7 p.m. and then back in the CU Arena Friday Jan. 31 against The Master's with another 7 p.m. start time.
