IRVINE, Calif. — CUI Men's Soccer fought hard on Wednesday night at Golden Eagles Field, but a late push wasn't enough in a 2–1 loss to Vanguard.
After a scoreless first half, the visitors netted two goals midway through the second period. The Golden Eagles quickly responded in the 78th minute when Dylan Graham capitalized on a goalkeeper miscue inside the box, setting up Bryan Maldonado for a finish into traffic. With Vanguard's defenders lined across the goal line, Maldonado broke through to put CUI on the board.
Concordia kept pressing in the final minutes, creating several dangerous chances but couldn't find the tying goal before time expired.
Sebastian Marin anchored the defense with six saves, while Miguel Arroyo generated multiple looks on target to keep the attack rolling.
The Golden Eagles move to 5-5-1 overall (3-2 PacWest) and return home on Saturday, Oct. 18 at 6:30 p.m. to take on Azusa Pacific under the lights at Golden Eagles Field.
