San Marcos, Calif. - Under the brightest pressure moments of the young season, the Concordia University Irvine Golden Eagles delivered a statement win—an overtime, 77–74 battle of wills over Cal State San Marcos that showcased toughness, poise, and a whole lot of heart.
CUI's victory was defined by balance, resilience, and clutch execution. Five Golden Eagles scored at least six points, but it was Kaden Minter who set the tone all night. The junior forward poured in 20 points while securing a double-double with 10 rebounds, including eight on the defensive glass. His work on the boards gave CUI the second-chance opportunities they needed to survive a fierce CSUSM attack.
Right beside him, Marcellus Edwards was nothing short of electric. The guard put together one of the most efficient performances of the evening, shooting 7–8 from the field, splashing both of his threes, and finishing with 18 points and four assists.
MaCarhy Morris added 15 points—including several crucial free throws in the extra period—Radek Homer chipped in 7 points and 3 assists, and Nick Corbett anchored the interior with a massive 12-rebound performance, helping CUI win the overall rebounding battle 38–35.
The Golden Eagles needed every piece of production to counter a monster 34-point night from CSUSM's Keavie Love, who single-handedly kept the Cougars alive. But CUI's defensive discipline down the stretch, matched with their superior ball movement and late-game shot-making, made the difference.
After a back-and-forth regulation that featured 11 ties and nine lead changes, the Golden Eagles entered overtime with fresh confidence. They shot 50% from the field and a perfect 2-for-2 from deep in the extra period, while holding the Cougars without a three-point make. Morris and Minter combined to go 5-of-6 at the line in OT, sealing the win possession by possession.
