IRVINE, Calif. - The Concordia University Irvine women's basketball team opened up the home portion of its schedule with the PacWest/GNAC Challenge getting underway on Friday.
CUI hosted Western Washington in its home opener and saw nine different players score at least one basket, but the visiting Vikings pulled away for a 86-57 victory.

Genesis Hopkins scored a team-high 13 points for Concordia and shot a healthy 7-for-8 at the free throw line. Freshman
Asia Darcuiel and newcomer
Myia Collins each added nine points.
Meanwhile,
Hannah Vela and
Camryn Kiernan combined for 10 points and four steals.
CUI shot 47 percent in the first quarter and 35.6 percent for the game. WWU led 27-21 after the opening stanza.
A basket by Collins and a three-pointer by freshman
Ellana Klemp helped the Golden Eagles claw within three at 29-26 early in the second period. But then WWU rattled off a 14-4 run to build a 13-point advantage.
The Vikings led by 11 at the break, 43-32. The third quarter is where the Vikings pulled away as they clamped down on defense and outscored CUI 21-9.
The Golden Eagles get a chance to quickly redeem themselves on Saturday. Less than 24 hours after playing Western Washington, CUI gets to host Seattle Pacific as the two-day tournament continues in Irvine. The Golden Eagles are slated to play the Falcons at 3pm PT following the Azusa Pacific-Western Washington game at 1 p.m. It's part of a tripleheader in the gym as the CUI men's basketball team will then play Cal State San Bernardino following the women's match.
