CUI Puts The Clamps on Dominican In Monday Matinee

IRVINE, Calif. – The Concordia University Irvine men's basketball team became the first team in the PacWest Conference to move to 3-0 after a spirited offensive performance and stout defensive effort in an 80-66 victory over Dominican on Monday.

The Golden Eagles improved their record to 6-3 overall and are one of two undefeated squads remaining in league play, while Dominican falls to 6-2 and 1-1 in PacWest competition.

Concordia's offense was paced by redshirt junior Kaden Minter, who delivered a season-high 25 points on an efficient night, converting 8 of 10 shots from the field and all four of his three-point attempts. Minter also chipped in five rebounds in one of his most complete outings of the season. His balanced scoring helped the Golden Eagles build a lead early and maintain it throughout the contest.

Close behind in scoring was MaCarhy Morris, who added 18 points thanks to a strong night from the free-throw line, where he went 8-of-9. Morris also helped move the ball with a team-leading seven assists, showcasing his versatility as both a scorer and facilitator.

Senior Marcellus Edwards provided Concordia's second double-figure effort with 15 points and contributed four assists, while Nick Corbett powered the interior game with 14 points and a game-high nine rebounds, anchoring the Golden Eagles on the boards. Their contributions allowed Concordia to control the paint and limit second-chance opportunities for Dominican.

The Golden Eagles bolted out to an early lead in the first half, shooting over 55 percent from the floor and building a 10-point halftime advantage. Concordia's defense held firm in the second half, holding the Penguins to under 37 percent shooting after the break and forcing key turnovers. CUI's Radek Homer added defensive pressure with multiple steals and timely plays, giving Concordia momentum when it mattered most.

Up next for head coach Ken Ammann's team is a home date this Thrusday, Dec. 18 at 5:15 pm against Fresno Pacific. CUI will try to wrap up the December slate with one more win before Christmas break and their upcoming January road trip to Northern California.
