IRVINE, Calif. – The Concordia University Irvine women's basketball team played tough in their PacWest conference opener battling through all four quarters despite a 66-40 final against Westmont.
Junior
Hannah Vela led CUI with eight points on three-of-seven shooting including a perfect two-for-two from three point line.
Ashari Cassell tallying seven points and had a team-high of four assists and steals in defensive takeaways.
Asia Darcuiel provided an energy boost scoring seven points. Darcuiel knocked down a three-pointer and added one rebound, two assists, and a steal.
Ellana Klemp made an immediate impact on the court scoring five points in 10 minutes. Klemp shot two-of-four from the field and added a rebound and a steal.
Genesis Hopkins contributed with seven points and five rebounds.
The Golden Eagles kicked off three of the four quarters with a trey from three different players. The Warriors outscored the Golden Eagles in the first quarter but CUI came back in the second to score 16 points versus their 12. Westmont had a slight edge at the half with a 22-26 score. Westmont held on to their lead and carried it until the end of the game.
The Golden Eagles will be back in the CU Arena as they take on Azusa Pacific Saturday Dec. 6 with a 5 p.m. slated start time.
