CUI And CSUDH Combine For 30 Hits In Series Finale

CARSON, Calif. – The CUI baseball team traveled to Cal State Dominguez Hills Monday to complete their series opener. The two teams totaled an impressive 30 hits on the day and a combined 27 runs. The Golden Eagles fell just short with a final score 14-13 and finished the series tied at two wins each.
 
Matthew Kaiser started on the mound for CUI and went 2.1 innings allowing six hits and eight runs. Richie Kingsborough went 4.1 innings and struck out four with eight hits and five runs. Conor Meehan, Nathan Hunter, and Kaj James came into the game as relievers.
 
CUI got things going first scoring five runs in the second and third inning. Sawyer Voortman and Vito Fowler both hit an RBI single to left field. Wyatt Madison hit a triple to right center and Nicholas Erickson singled up the middle to both had an RBI. The Toros answered back in the bottom of the third to score eight and take an 8-5 lead over the Golden Eagles.
 
Landry Spitler hit a two RBI single to cut the deficit by just one run in the fourth. In the fifth Green and Gold continued their momentum at the top of the lineup with Haku Dudoit and Isaiah Walz both hitting a double to take the lead back and Wyatt Madison joining in with an RBI single to jump out with a 11-8 lead over CSUDH.
 
With a runner on base the Toros hit a homer to left center to score another two in the seventh frame. Anthony Pacino put down a perfect sacrifice bunt to bring home Niko Santamaria in the top of the eighth. The Toros scored another four runs to take a 14-12 lead. Madison was up to the plate and reached on a fielder's choice allowing Tank Espalin to score with two outs. Madison advanced to second and third with wild pitcher but the Toros were able to hold him on third base for the third out.
 
The Golden Eagles will start PacWest against newly added Vanguard with a four game series. CUI will host Vanguard Thursday Feb. 13 with 2 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. start times. They will travel down the freeway to conclude the series Saturday Feb. 15 with 11 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.
