IRVINE, Calif. - A much-anticipated rematch with Concordia's rivals from Biola ultimately did not go the way the home team had hoped on Wednesday night.
Jaden Henderson scored a game-high 25 points and
Charlie Dalton added 16 on 7-of-10 shooting to pace the CUI offense against the visiting Eagles.Â
Henderson shot a solid 10-for-18 from the floor and made two treys to help the cause.
But outside of those two, the Golden Eagles could not settle into a comfortable rhythm in this one against the second-place team in the league.
Biola's balanced attack helped the visitors build a double-digit lead and the Golden Eagles ran out of time trying to work their way back into this one in the second half.
Four Biola starters scored at least 18 points and Concordia efforted to dig its way back from that early deficit. But Biola hit a handful of key three-pointers to fend off the home squad.
"For the first time this season we completely failed to execute any part of our game plan, especially on the defensive end of the floor," said CUI head coach
Ken Ammann. "All of the things we worked on correcting from the first game against them got worse. We better play a whole lot better defensively if we want to have a chance at beating anybody going forward."
CUI visits first-place and nationally-ranked Point Loma this Saturday, Feb. 15 at 8 p.m. It will be the second meeting between the two squads this season, as
CUI was the first team in the PacWest to hand Point Loma a conference loss. Westmont recently did the same as schools continue to battle for the six spots reserved for the PacWest Conference Tournament.
