ATHERTON, Calif. - The Golden Eagles kept their chances for the postseason alive with an impressive 91-75 victory over Menlo College on Saturday behind an outstanding performance by
Jaden Henderson.
The senior guard scored a career-high 39 points on 15-of-25 shooting (60 percent) from the floor to help CUI finish its road trip up north 2-0.
Henderson also sank all five of his free throw shots and went 4-for-6 from three-point land. It was a dominating performance and with Saturday's offensive explosion, he now is tied for the sixth-most points scored in one game for a Concordia men's basketball player. Henderson recently eclipsed the 1,000 career point mark for his college career.
Kaden Minter added 18 points,
Jayce Catchings led the way on the glass with eight rebounds and
Charlie Dalton added 10 points and five boards.
The Golden Eagles also snagged 12 steals, with Catchings credited with five of those thefts. That was a key statistic in this game as CUI only had eight turnovers while forcing Menlo to turn the ball over a whopping 18 times.
"When we are competing on defense, that is when we are at our best,"explained senior guard
Connor Gleason, echoing a common mantra of head coach
Ken Ammann and the CUI coaching staff.
The Green and Gold put the clamps down early on the Oaks to spoil their Senior Day. Concordia held Menlo to only six points in the first eight minutes of action and built a 19-point lead before the second media timeout. Menlo put together an 11-0 run to claw back into the contest but CUI weathered that storm and still led 43-36 at the break. Freshman
Kevin Haupt hit a jumper at the halftime buzzer to help keep that cushion intact.
Next up for the Golden Eagles is a home date with Academy of Art on Thursday, Feb. 27 at 7 p.m. before Senior Day on Saturday, March 1 against Dominican.
Both days will featured doubleheaders with the women's team playing first.Â

CUI needs to win its last two games to make the PacWest Conference Tournament as one of the top six seeds in the league. So far, Point Loma, Biola, Academy of Art and Westmont have reserved four of those spots up for grabs as of Sunday, Feb. 23.
The Golden Eagles hold the tiebreaker on Chaminade if it comes down to head-to-head between those two schools, but Fresno Pacific would get the nod if tied with CUI.
