CUI Tangles With No. 2 Tampa

Freshmen Stiller & Pillow Net Goals On The Road

TAMPA, Fla. – The Concordia University Irvine men's lacrosse team battled against the No. 2 team in NCAA DII on Thursday afternoon and saw four different players tally goals in the contest.

First year attack Ryan Stiller has made multiple starts this week during the Florida road trip and he scored his first career goal in the second period against Tampa.

Stiller wound up leading the offense with two scores. Fellow freshman Noah Pillow also cashed in for a goal, making this his third game with at least one point for the Golden Eagles.

Brody MacDonald added one more goal to his ledger and now leads CUI with a dozen points. Veteran Chad McFadden added one goal and an assist. McFadden is right behind MacDonald with 10 total points now on the campaign.

In additoin, Tyler Hilmar notched his first career assist with Concordia. Matt Carresi and Jeremy Barnes were each credited with a helper as well.

Drew Klingman made his first career start at earned a pair of wins in the X. Cade Poe added four more wins in the face-off spotlight.

Goalie Joey Heckel got the starting nod and made five saves. Senior Daniel Yang came on in the second half and was credited with seven more stops between the pipes.

After playing five straight games to open the season away from home, the Golden Eagles get to face their next two opponents back on home turf.

The home opener will be Thursday, March 6 at 6 p.m. against nationally ranked Adelphi.  The Panthers have held the No. 1 ranking in NCAA DII for multiple weeks so far this spring.

Rollins then visits on Saturday, March 8 at 1 p.m. in another exciting match up that gives CUI a chance to knock off a nationally ranked opponent. Towards the end of February, Rollins is ranked in the Top 10 for the second straight NCAA DII poll.

Lacrosse fans can also enjoy two neutral games in the coming days at Concordia. After the Rollins-CUI contest that Saturday, Dominican and Adelphi will face off at 4 p.m.

Then Adelphi and Rollins will clash in a highly-anticipated neutral game on Monday, March 10 at 2 p.m. to close out their West Coast road trip.
